No. 24 Jones volleyball stumbles against rival Pearl River

POPLARVILLE – No. 24 Jones College volleyball fell to Pearl River Community College in four sets Wednesday night, 25-23, 25-22, 17-25, 25-23 and gave the Wildcats their first ever win against the Bobcats.

The loss dropped the Bobcats to 3-2 on the young season. PRCC moved to 5-0.

Jones battled closely with Pearl River throughout the opening set before the Wildcats pulled out a 25-23 win. The Bobcats again stayed within striking distance in the second, but Pearl River took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-22 victory.

Facing a two-set deficit, Jones responded with its strongest set of the night. The Bobcats recorded 14 kills with just three errors on 32 attacks, hitting .344 in a 25-17 third-set victory to extend the match.

The fourth set followed a similar script to the opening frame, with the two sides battling down the stretch before Pearl River edged Jones 25-23 to close out the match.

Jones finished the night with 48 kills while hitting .230 as a team with 46 assists, 55 digs, four service aces and four total blocks.

LEADING THE WAY

Izzi Barnes (Gulfport) was one of four Bobcats to finish with nine kills, hitting a team-best .533 with just one error on 15 attacks.

Selah Sandridge (Madison; MRA) recorded nine kills and added six digs and a block assist.

Myah Favre (Pass Christian; OLA) finished with nine kills and a team-high three service aces. She also recorded a solo block.

Addyson Sides (Central, La.; Central Private) added nine kills, 11 digs, one service ace and a solo block.

Amaya Wilson (Olive Branch; Northpoint Christian) finished with six kills on 12 attacks, hitting .417 for the match.

Claire Wicker (Oxford) directed the Bobcat offense with 42 assists while adding six digs and two kills.

Olivia Guth (Poplarville; Lakeshore) led Jones defensively with a match-high 19 digs and also recorded two assists.

UP NEXT

Jones returns home for the 2026 home-opener on Friday, Aug. 28 to host Bishop State at 6 p.m. in Ellisville.
