ELLISVILLE – The Jones College volleyball team (4-2 overall) made its home debut a successful one Friday night, sweeping Bishop State Community College (2-3) in straight sets.
The Bobcats battled through a tight opening set before pulling out a 28-26 victory and followed with convincing 25-14 and 25-15 wins to complete the sweep.
The opening set proved to be the closest of the night, with neither side able to create much separation. Jones eventually fought off Bishop State down the stretch and grabbed the early advantage with a 28-26 win.
The Bobcats took control from there.
Jones opened up some breathing room in the second set and rolled to a 25-14 victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bobcats carried that momentum into the third, closing out their first home victory of the season with a 25-15 win to complete the sweep.
Jones finished the night with 36 kills while hitting .247 as a team. The Bobcats added 34 assists, seven service aces, 29 digs and 10 total blocks.
LEADING THE WAY
Myah Favre (Pass Christian; OLA) turned in a dominant offensive performance with a match-high 14 kills on 15 attacks without committing an error, finishing with a .933 hitting percentage. She also added two block assists.
Selah Sandridge (Madison; MRA) finished with seven kills while hitting .278 and added two digs.
Amaya Wilson (Olive Branch; Northpoint Christian) recorded four kills, one service ace and one dig.
Addyson Sides (Central, La.; Central Private) added four kills and one service ace.
Claire Wicker (Oxford) directed the Bobcat offense with 28 assists while adding three service aces and four digs.
Olivia Guth (Poplarville; Lakeshore) led Jones defensively with a match-high 14 digs while also contributing three assists.
