WESSON – No. 7 Jones College clinched the top spot in the MACCC with an 8-1 victory over No. 18 Copiah-Lincoln here Friday at the C-L Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats have won 12 consecutive over Co-Lin.
With the win, Jones is assured of hosting the Region 23 Tournament April 9-11.
Jones is now 11-0 overall and 8-0 n the conference. The Bobcats will host No. 13 Coastal Alabama-South at 1 p.m. Monday and will end league play with a 2 p.m. Tuesday match at No. 24 Itawamba.
Co-Lin falls to 9-2 overall, 7-1 in the MACCC.
In No. 1 doubles,
Heidi Clayton (New Albany) and
Theresa Emelio (Australia) edged Ruri Takeuchi and Georgina Labusch, 9-7.
Maria Martinez (Argentina) and
Camila Piquín (Argentina) beat Domenica Gruezo and Ady Locke, 8-3, in No. 2 doubles.
Katlin Porcello (Oak Grove) and
Josie Tullos (Newton County) defeated Clara Barton Calcote and Allie McNeill in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Piquín lost a close one to Takeuchi in No. 1 singles, 1-6, 7-5, 3-10. Clayton defeated Gruezo in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and Martinez downed Labusch in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. Emelio beat Locke in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Porcello whipped Calcote in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Tullos defeated Ella Claire Thompson in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
