Bobcats split round robin at Hinds

RAYMOND – After dropping an 8-4 decision to host Hinds to open the day, No. 14 Jones bounced back with a 7-3 win over East Mississippi to split a pair at Joe G. Moss Field Tuesday afternoon.

Jones moved to 11-2 on the season and will return home Thursday (was Saturday) to host Coastal Alabama-South for a single nine-inning game at 2 p.m.

Hinds 8, Jones 4

Chase Russell hit his team-leading fifth home run in the first but the Eagles would score the game's final five runs to rally for a home win.

Ethan Keen hit the first of two home runs in the bottom of the first to tie it for Hinds at 1-1.

A pair of wild pitches helped Jones retake the lead in the second and score Brayden Quick and a batter later Kelan Guidry drove home two to push the lead to 4-1.

A leadoff hit-by-pitch in the bottom half and Ryder Molea's two-run homer pulled the Eagles within 4-3.

Brody Breithaupt's two-run double in the third put Hinds ahead for good.

Brayson Graham took the loss in 2.1, allowing five runs on four hits. Trevor Hodges tossed the final 3.2 innings and surrendered three runs on eight hits.

Tyler West got the win for Hinds in five innings, scattering four runs, five strikeouts and three walks.

Jones 7, East Mississippi 3

Gage Reeves hit his first collegiate home run in the sixth to break the game open and Russ Thompson got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to help Jones respond to an earlier loss.

Scoreless into the fourth, Russell's groundout and Sanders Ainsworth's sac fly gave Jones a 2-0 lead.

The teams traded sac flies in the fifth as Jones led 3-1.

Ainsworth's RBI-single, followed two batters later by Reeves' three-run shot, extended the JC lead to 7-1.

Hinds got two back on a Jonas Coleman two-out, two-run double and then loaded them on a single and walk. Thompson entered for Caden Freeman with them loaded and proceeded to get a strikeout looking to the only batter he faced to close it out.

Drew Lambert scattered a run on three hits in 4.2 innings for the win, the third of his career.

Behind Reeves' 2-for-3 day and three RBIs, Dylan Champagne had multiple hits.
