MERIDIAN – Ninth-ranked Jones College cruised to an 8-1 victory over No. 10 Oxford-Emory (Ga.) at NE Park Tennis Center Saturday morning.
Jones swept the doubles matches.
Heidi Clayton (New Albany) and
Theresa Emelio (Australia) beat Rachel Blais , 8-2, in No. 1 doubles.
Camila Piquín (Argentina) and
Maria Martinez (Argentina) beat Anastasiya Speyer and Chloe Macaluso in No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and
Katlin Porcello (Oak Grove) and
Josie Tullos (Newton County) defeated Zari Haque and Arielle Gomberg in No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Clayton whipped Speyer in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and Martinez downed Karina Artemiev in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Emelio beat Haque in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Porcello outlasted Macaluso in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) and Tullos defeated Gomberg in No. 6 singles, 6-4 ,6-2. Paquín fell to Blais in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 1-6, 0-1 (8-10).
The Bobcats (2-0) will play at Northwest on Friday and will meet Rust College in New Albany on Feb. 21.
