Bobcats lead wire-to-wire in 70-63 win over EMCC

ELLISVILLE – Jones College led from the start and defeated East Mississippi 70-63 here Tuesday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
The win completed a series sweep for the Bobcats over EMCC after Jones posted a 69-60 win in Scooba on Dec. 11.
 
The Bobcats are now 15-3 overall, 4-1 in the MACCC. The Lady Lions fall to 3-14 and 0-5.
 
Lamarah Cleaves (Tupelo) led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds – her fourth double-double in five games. Larissa Hubbard (Harrison Central) had 16 points and eight rebounds and Jakera Ducksworth (West Jones) added 15 points and four steals. Sanyla Smith (Tupelo) had eight points and six assists. Julissa Claxton (Jackson Murrah) had five points, five rebounds and four assists.
 
Hubbard's jumper gave Jones an 11-3 lead with 5:37 to play in the opening period. The Bobcats  led 13-9 after the first quarter.
 
Jones took command in the second quarter. A Cleaves' layup made it 37-18 with less than a minute left and the Bobcats would lead 39-22 at halftime.
 
A 3-pointer by Khalee Harrison (Yazoo County) gave Jones its largest lead of the night at 53-30 with 5:07 left in the third quarter. The Bobcats led 55-39 going into the final period.
 
EMCC rallied to within 68-63 with 26 seconds left, but Smith hit a pair of free throws to clinch it for Jones.
 
Dukiaha Jones led EMCC with 15 points and Bailey Siddell added 13. Kabreyia Garth had eight points and 10 rebounds.
 
Jones shot 43 percent from the floor and was a stellar 16-of-17 from the free throw line. EMCC was 35 percent from the field and 17-of-23 from the free throw line. 
 
The Bobcats out-rebounded the Lady Lions, 38-36. Jones committed 19 turnovers compared to 17 for EMCC.
 
Jones travels to Holmes for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff on Thursday.
