ELLISVILLE – In front of a large crowd Wednesday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium, Jones defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 3-0 in the first-ever meeting on the volleyball court.
Jones, 2-0, 1-0 MACCC, is in its second year as a program, MGCCC, 2-1, 0-1 its first.
The Bobcats got off to a slow start, with the Bulldogs scoring the first three points of the match and leading by as many as 10-5.
But Jones would settle in and take its first lead, 20-19, after a
Claire Wicker ace and MGCCC error. Another Bulldog error closed out the first set, a 25-23 JC winner.
After six errors in the first set, Jones committed just two the final two sets and controlled the rest of the match in 25-16 and 25-18 wins.
Harmony Jackson had a match-high nine kills, followed by
Izzi Barnes with eight.
Sara Akins had 16 digs and
Mamie Fromdahl 33 assists.
Jensi Doise, in her first collegiate action at home, finished with five kills in five attempts.
Jones travels to Pearl River Sept. 3 for a 6 p.m. first serve.
