Baseball win streak reaches eight in sweep over Coahoma

JACKSON – Evan Rogers and Braden Smith combined for 10 hits and 10 RBIs in a doubleheader sweep over Coahoma Friday afternoon at Smith-Wills Stadium.

Jones ran its win streak out to eight games in improving to 27-8 overall and 13-3 in the MACCC.

The Bobcats host Gulf Coast Wednesday and Holmes Saturday at The Bank.

Jones 8, Coahoma 7

Jones rallied from a 7-5 deficit in the sixth with Rogers' three-run homer to take the opener.

Smith's double got the Cats on the board in the first and Cole Manuel's two-run homer made it 3-0 Jones in the third.

Coahoma plated five runs on a pair of homers in the fourth to take its first lead, 5-3.

The teams exchanged two runs in the fifth to make it 7-5 Tigers.

Dominick Regira drew a leadoff walk in the sixth and Brody Martin singled before Rogers' three-run bomb with two outs in the inning.

Micah Daniell (4-1) allowed one earned run on five hits in four relief innings to get the win and Brycen Smith grabbed his second save with 1.1 scoreless to end it.

Manuel was 3-for-3 with a double in addition to multi-hit games from Rogers and Smith. 

Jones 10, Coahoma 1

The Bobcats tied a season-high with 15 hits by nine different players to close out a sweep of the Tigers.

A 1-1 game in the third, Chase Russell's solo homer and Rogers' RBI-double made it 3-1 Jones.

Smith doubled in the fifth to push the lead out to 5-1, one of his three in the game, and Rogers singled to make it 6-1.

A four-run sixth capped 10 unanswered runs for Jones.

Colton Smith worked six innings, allowing one run on six hits with nine strikeouts to improve to 2-1. Drew Lambert tossed a scoreless seventh.

Talan Theriot had two hits, Russell two and Smith and Rogers three apiece.
