Lee punches out a career-high 13 in a split with rival Bulldogs

ELLISVILLE – Josh Lee set new career highs in strikeouts and innings pitched in a 5-2 game one win before the Bobcats were one hit in the nightcap by the Bulldogs to split.

Jones moved to 28-9, 14-4 in the MACCC. Gulf Coast moved to 28-14, 10-6 in league play.

The Bobcats host Holmes Saturday at 2 p.m.

Jones 5, Gulf Coast 2

Lee mowed down Bulldog hitters for eight innings, allowing just two runs in the seventh and striking out 13.

Evan Rogers broke open a scoreless game in the third with sac fly, scoring Talan Theriot. A Cole Manuel two-run double made it 3-0 Jones after three.

Jacob Palazzo's solo homer in the seventh got the Bulldogs off the schneid. Dawson Hall's RBI-double cut the lead to 5-2.

Back-to-back singles for the Bulldogs in the top of the ninth ended Lee's day, but Caden Freeman got a double play and fly out on consecutive batters to grab his sixth save.

Gulf Coast 3, Jones 1

Jones was no-hit into the bottom of the sixth until Manuel's bloop RBI-single.

It would be the only one of the game for Jones.

Andrew Marble struck out 10 to be the hard-luck loser, allowing five hits and only one earned run.
