ELLISVILLE – The 10th-rated Jones College Bobcats knocked off the 24th-ranked Hinds Eagles 8-1 here Thursday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats are now 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the MACCC.
The Bobcats swept the doubles points.
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) and
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) blanked Daniela Lopez and Camila Mordiz in No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Maria Martinez (Argentina) and
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) beat Macie Curtis and Rodia Noudogbessi in No. 2 doubles, 8-1, and
Theresa Emelio (Australia) and
Josie Tullos (Newton County) shut out Josilyn James and Tierney Cronin in No. doubles, 8-0.
Hernanez blanked Noudogbessi in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Emelio rallied in an exciting match to beat Mordiz in No. 3 singles, 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) in No. 3 singles.
Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) edged Curtis in No. 4 singles and Tomkins shut out James in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Hannah Hupe (Laurel Christian School) defeated Cronin in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
Jones will travel to No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast for a 2 p.m. Tuesday match.
