No. 10 Bobcats beat No. 13 MGCCC in league showdown

PERKINSTON – No. 10 Jones College grabbed an important 7-2 win over No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast here Tuesday afternoon at the MGCCC Tennis Courts.
 
The Bobcats improve to 9-0 overall, 6-0 in the MACCC. The Bulldogs fall to 7-1, 6-1.
 
The Bobcats swept the doubles matches.
 
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) and Molly Bennett (Madison Central) beat Danique Vermue and Valeria Callejo, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Theresa Emelio (Australia) and Maria Martinez (Argentina) defeated Lauren Sullivan and Isona Arnaus, 8-2, and Josie Tullos (Newton County) and Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) edged Mikenzy Dubrow and Dallas Tanner, 8-6, in No. 3 doubles.
 
Hernandez beat Vermue in No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2 and Bennett lost to Callejo in No. 2 singles, 0-6, 5-7. Martinez outlasted Arnaus in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 and Emelio downed Sullivan in No. 4 singles, 7-6 (13-11), 7-5. Simmons lost a close one in No. 5 singles to Tanner, 4-6, 6-2, 0-1 (4-10) and Tomkins beat Karia Bethea in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.

Jones will not play again until a home match on March 25 vs. No. 20 Copiah-Lincoln. MGCCC visits Itawamba on Monday.
