ELLISVILLE – Tenth-ranked Jones College rolled to its 35th straight victory with an 8-1 win over No. 20 Copiah-Lincoln here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones is now 10-0 overall, 7-0 in the MACCC. The Bobcats have not lost a conference match in over six years.
The Bobcats started the day by winning two doubles' matches.
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) and
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) blanked Yariange Bello and Munashe Bera in No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) and
Josie Tullos (Newton County) beat Ann-Clark Van and Allie McNeill in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Theresa Emelio (Australia) and
Maria Martinez (Argentina) lost to Sophie Sisson and Georgina Labusch in No. 2 doubles, 4-8.
Hernandez beat Bello in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-7 (7-5), 3-2 (retired) and Bennett whipped Bera in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Martinez downed Labusch in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4 and Emelio defeated Sisson in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) whipped Van in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Tomkins beat McNeill in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
Jones returns to league play with a 12:45 p.m. match on Friday vs. No. 21 Northwest.
