ELLISVILLE – Tenth-ranked Jones College has clinched the MACCC's top spot for the fifth straight year.
The Bobcats blanked No. 21 Northwest 9-0 here Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Jones is now 11-0 overall and 8-0 in the MACCC. The Bobcats can end conference play with a perfect record and take the title outright with a win vs. No. 19 Meridian on Tuesday.
Mississippi Gulf Coast only has one conference loss, but that was to Jones which gives the Bobcats the tiebreaker.
The Bobcats will host the women's NJCAA Region 23 Tournament April 10-12.
The Bobcats did not lose a game in doubles winning all matches, 8-0.
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) and
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) beat Laura Camara Blanco and Claudia Lopez Chaparro in No. 1 doubles,
Theresa Emelio (Australia) and
Maria Martinez (Argentina) beat Macarena Arisio and Mattison Sanders in No. 2 doubles and
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) and
Josie Tullos (Newton County) defeated Allie Rawles and Kendall Moody in No. 3 doubles.
Hernandez whipped Arisio in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and Bennett downed Chaparro in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Martinez beat Blanco in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4 and Emelion defeated Sanders in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) defeated Margaret Daves in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Tomkins beat Rawles in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
