ELLISVILLE – The 10th-ranked Jones College Bobcats continue their dominance on the tennis courts.
Jones blanked No. 19 Meridian 9-0 here Tuesday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex to claim their fifth straight MACCC championship. The Bobcats are now 12-0 overall and end regular season league play at 9-0.
Jones has won 83 consecutive MACCC regular season matches. The Bobcats have not lost a conference match since Feb. 14, 2019.
The Bobcats will host the women's Region 23 Tournament April 10-12.
Jones started the day with three wins in doubles.
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) and
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) blanked Reine Akombo and Daisi Kukuljan in No. 1 doubles, 8-0.
Theresa Emelio (Australia) and
Maria Martinez (Argentina) beat Lilly Hollingsworth and Cheludo Monnayoo in No. 2 doubles, 8-5 and
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) and
Josie Tullos (Newton County) defeated Cayden Alexander and Aleah McMullan in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Hernandez beat Monnayoo in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4 and Bennett defeated Akombo in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Martinez downed Kukuljan in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2 and Emelio whipped Hollingsworth in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) defeated Elizabeth Shirley in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Tomkins beat McMullan in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
The Bobcats host Coastal Alabama-South in a 1 p.m. Friday match.
