ELLISVILLE – No. 12 Jones swept a round robin at The Bank Wednesday afternoon, defeating Southwest 7-2 and Northeast 8-7.
The Bobcats improved to 13-5 overall and 6-0 at home.
Jones travels to Chalmette, La., Friday for a single game at Nunez. The Bobcats will face Triton College (Ill.) and Delgado on Saturday in New Orleans, weather permitting.
Jones 7, Southwest 2
A four-run third inning, highlighted by
Evan Rogers and
Chase Russell run-scoring doubles, broke a 1-1 tie and led JC to a win to open the day.
Dom Regira added an RBI-single in the fifth and Russell capped a 3-for-4 game with a fielder's choice RBI for the game's final run in the sixth.
Brady Smith started and threw a shutout inning for Jones, his first action since Feb. 8, 2024 after an injury.
Josh Lee threw the final six, scattering seven hits, two runs, five strikeouts and a walk for the win.
Trace Roy was 2-for-3 to lead Southwest.
Jones 8, Northeast 7
It was déjà vu from the first meeting of the season in Decatur, a 10-9 Bobcat win.
Northeast scored the game's first four runs, Jones scored the next eight and then had to survive a 7th inning rally by the Tigers to hang on for the win.
Northeast batted around in the second and used RBI-doubles from Cooper Davis and Carter Wells to take a 2-0 lead and then a Kieran Coleman two-out, two-run single made it 4-0 Tigers.
A passed ball got the Cats on the board in the second, scoring
Braden Smith.
Gage Reeves then doubled to score
Talan Theriot after a single to make it 4-2.
Like the Tigers in the second, Jones batted around in the fourth to take its first lead.
TJ Dunsford's two-run single to center scored two to put Jones in front and a fielding error in center plated a third to make it 6-4 Bobcats.
Brycen Smith relieved
Andrew Marble to start the fourth and allowed just two hits over 3.1.
Bra. Smith's sac fly extended the lead to 7-4 in the sixth and
Cole Manuel scored on a passed ball to make it 8-4.
Then things got hairy in the seventh.
A leadoff double and back-to-back walks loaded the bases with no outs for Northeast. A fielder's choice and throwing error cut the lead to 8-6 before
Micah Daniell came on to try and close things out.
Daniell gave up consecutive singles to score a run, but got two strikeouts to strand two Tigers and end the game.
Theriot and Reeves combined for four of Jones' eight hits.
