Russell, a freshman transfer from Southern Miss, gave up three runs on four singles in the top of the first inning, but dominated after that.

The Madison Central product ended up allowing seven hits, walked none and struck out three. He threw 94 pitches and improved his record to 2-0.

The Bobcats scored twice in the second when a Gage Reeves (George County) groundout scored Dominick Regira (Gonzalez, La.) and Brice Ainsworth (Brandon) singled home Bryson Jones (Northwest Rankin).

Jones tied it in the fifth when Braden Smith (Brandon) led off with a double, took third on a Regira sacrifice and scored on a Bryson Jones single.

The Bobcats used a two-out rally in the sixth to score the eventual winning run.

Evan Rogers (Northwest Rankin) got a single and Cole Manuel (Clinton) and Braden Smith both walked on 3-2 pitches. Regira then walked on a 3-1 pitch to score Rogers.
