Leflore, Hubbard help Bobcats defeat Holmes, 75-66

ELLISVILLE Zharia Leflore (Neshoba Central) had a monster game here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
Leflore scored a season-high 27 points, had nine rebounds and eight assists to lead Jones College to a 75-66 victory over Holmes.
 
The Bobcats are now 5-15 overall, 2-6 in the MACCC. Holmes falls to 11-11 overall, 4-3 in the conference.
 
Larissa Hubbard (Harrison Central) had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Raygan Faulkner (Meridian) came off the bench to score 12 points. Carolina de Domingo (Spain) had seven assists.
 
Bella Roberts led four Lady Bulldogs in double figures with 24 points. Hannah Finley had 13 points, Kiara Shelly had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Satiyah Johnson added 11 points.
 
Leflore's layup gave Jones a 20-12 lead with 3:30 left in the opening quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs rallied and cut the lead to 22-20 after the first quarter.
 
Holmes would take its largest lead at 25-22 with 8:38 to play in the second quarter when Neveah Craft scored. But Jones went on a 10-2 run and took a 32-27 advantage with 5:28 play in the first half on a Hubbard jumper. Jones led 40-33 at halftime.
 
The Lady Bulldogs came back and tied it at 44-44 with 5:20 left in the third quarter when Shelly made a layup. The Bobcats would lead 54-51 after three quarters.
 
Johnson's layup gave Holmes its final lead of the night at 55-54 with 8:38 left. Hubbard hit two free throws to start a 6-0 run and give Jones a 60-55 lead with 6:20 to play. The Bobcats would never trail again and would lead by as many as 13 points.
 
Jones made 29-of-57 shots from the field for 51 percent, 5-of-16 from beyond the arc for 31 percent and they were a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Holmes was 23-of-62 from the field for 37 percent, 6-of-23 from 3-point range for 26 percent and 14-of-19 from the foul line for 74 percent.
 
The Bobcats outrebounded Holmes, 36-33. Each team committed 22 turnovers.
 
Jones travels to Mississippi Delta for its next game on Feb. 13. Holmes hosts Mississippi Delta on Feb. 10.
