No. 6 Bobcats smother Holmes, 85-62

Home win streak up to 16 games

ELLISVILLE – Emotions were running high Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium with two members of Jones' conference and region championship team from 2023-24 on the opposite sideline now with Holmes.

The Bobcats let their play on the floor do the talking, however, smothering the Bulldogs 85-62 for a 16th straight home win.

"I couldn't be any more pleased with the way we performed this week," fourth-year head coach Newton Mealer said. "Look at the box score. Five guys in double figures tonight ... that's Jones basketball. I thought we shot the cover off the ball in the second half."

Jones improved to 21-3, 7-1 MACCC and handed Holmes its second straight loss to fall to 17-3, 5-2 in the conference.

Holmes led 22-18 after a Cameron Wallace dunk with 6:25 left in the opening half.

But LJ Hackman scored the next six points to help Jones retake the lead for good.

The Bobcat lead was 39-32 at the half.

Jones poured it on the second half, shooting 52 percent and outscoring Holmes by 16.

The Bulldogs were 0-for-15 from 3-point range on the night and turned it over 24 times that led to 33 Bobcat points off turnovers.

Hackman and Ky Pernell finished with 20 points each as all five Bobcat starters scored in double figures. Amillion Buggs had 10 of his career-hgh 15 points in the second half and added eight rebounds. Avery Thomas II had 14 points and Dimp Pernell a dozen.

Cameron Wallace had 17 to lead Holmes.

Jones enjoys a week off before returning to the floor Thursday, Feb. 13 at Mississippi Delta.
