BAY MINETTE, Ala. –
Braden Smith's second career home run, a go-ahead two-run shot in the third, helped lift No. 12 Jones over Coastal Alabama-South, 8-5, Thursday afternoon.
The Bobcats beat the Coyotes for the second time in three days in a home-and-home.
Cole Manuel hit a three-run homer in the first and a
Brice Ainsworth RBI-double made it 4-0 Jones in the second.
But Coastal would plate five in the second inning thanks to a two-run double by Aaron Threat and two-run single by Silas Cunningham to take a 5-4 lead.
That's the only runs Bobcat pitching would allow, hanging seven straight zeros to close the game.
Manuel drew a two-out walk in the top of the third to put the tying run on and Smith would homer to left to give Jones a 6-5 lead.
The Bobcats would add single runs in the fourth and seventh on a throwing error and
Evan Rogers RBI-double.
Micah Daniell pitched 3.1 innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts to get the win in relief and
Colton Smith 2.2 shutout with five punchouts to earn the save.
Eight different Bobcats had a hit, led by
TJ Dunsford who was 3-for-5.
Braylon Peters added two hits and Ainsworth a pair.
Jones hosts Danville Area Monday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. in a single 9-inning game.
