SCOOBA –
Dimp Pernell led five Bobcats in double figures with 16 points and
Jay Tyler tied a season-high with 12 as No. 6 Jones picked up its 20th win of the year, 78-70, Monday night at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
Jones has won six straight MACCC games after dropping its opener at Itawamba.
Down 14-12 in the first half, an 11-0 Bobcat run behind a pair of Tyler 3s and a
Malik Franklin triple, gave Jones a nine-point lead.
They'd hold that advantage into the halftime horn, leading 42-38.
EMCC would eventually take the lead late in the second half and the final six minutes were back-and-forth.
Leading 64-63 with 4:06 to play,
LJ Hackman made a tough layup to spark an 8-0 run and make it 72-63. Dimp scored four straight points and Hackman made two free throws and the Bobcats were able to hold on from there.
Jones shot it 55 percent on the night against 44 percent for EMCC.
Hackman,
Ky Pernell and
Amillion Buggs had 11 points apiece.
Avery Thomas II, in limited minutes, had eight and Franklin had eight.
Jones hosts Holmes Thursday night at 7:30 looking to extend a 15-game home winning streak.
