PERKINSTON –
TJ Dunsford sent the 10th pitch of his leadoff at-bat in the bottom of the ninth out of Ken "Curly" Farris Field to help No. 12 Jones walk-off No. 5 Pearl River, 4-3, as part of a tripleheader Wednesday afternoon.
Jones lost the opening game of the day to host Gulf Coast, 5-4, after giving up an eighth inning three-run homer to Dom Jackson.
Gulf Coast defeated PRCC, 3-1, in the nightcap.
The Bobcats moved to 11-3 on the season and will travel to Scooba Friday for a 2 p.m. twinbill at East Mississippi's Gerald Poole Field.
MGCCC 5, Jones 4
An infield error that would've ended the eighth was followed by a single and Jackson's three-run homer as the Bulldogs stole a 5-4 win.
MGCCC scored in the first on a Kaden Irving RBI-double and made it 2-0 after three thanks to Colby Wilson's RBI-single.
Jones took its first lead in the fourth thanks to
Cole Manuel's game-tying, two RBI-double and
Braden Smith's sac fly.
Chase Russell was grooving on the mound and hung four straight zeros to send Jones into the eighth with a one-run lead. Russell punched out eight and allowed two runs on four hits.
Preston Scott's RBI-single pushed the Bobcat lead to 4-2 in the top of the eighth.
Caden Freeman entered in relief, allowed a leadoff single but got a double play to quickly put two down. Wilson then reached on a throwing error that extended the inning, and after a single, Jackson delivered the knock out blow to right-center with a three-run blast.
All three runs off Freeman were unearned.
A
Dominick Regira single and Dunsford double had runners on second and third with one out for the Bobcats in the top of the ninth, but Walker Seaman got a pop out and fly out to strand them.
Jones 4, Pearl River 3
It felt like the right guy in the right spot.
Dunsford put the finishing touches on a three-hit game, his ninth multi-hit game of the season, with a solo shot just inside the foul pole in right field for his second walk-off homer of the year.
Keegan Giger broke a scoreless game open in the fourth for PRCC with an RBI-single and Jaxon Milam added a two-run blast in the fifth to make it 3-0 Wildcats.
Russell's RBI-single and Regira's sac fly cut the PRCC deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth,
Braylon Peters' sac bunt moved
Talan Theriot to third after a double, and
Evan Rogers followed with a perfect squeeze bunt to tie the game at 3-3.
Brycen Smith was fantastic in relief of
Josh Lee, scattering three hits, no runs and five strikeouts over four innings to keep the Wildcats in check and allow Dunsford and Jones to walk it off.
