Jones heads into Holiday break 11-1 after road win over EMCC

SCOOBA – What was a 30-point Bobcat lead dwindled down to six with under 20 seconds left but Jones was able to hold on for a 69-60 win at East Mississippi Thursday night at Keyes Currie Coliseum.

Jones rolls into the holiday break 11-1. EMCC dropped to 3-7.

Jakera Ducksworth scored all 16 of her points in the first half and it was her wing three-pointer that gave Jones an 18-13 lead that jumpstarted a huge Bobcat run.

Jones held EMCC without a field goal for six minutes during an 18-0 run and blew the game open.

Teeale Wells scored 13 of her career-high 18 in the first half.

Jones' lead was 51-21 with 5:12 left in the third quarter after a Sanyla Smith three-pointer in front of the Bobcat bench.

But the Bobcats went cold the final 15 minutes and EMCC scored 13 unanswered to make it a single-digit game with under 2 minutes left.

The lead was down to six with under 20 seconds left before Wells made four of five free throws.

Behind 18 from Wells and 16 from Ducksworth, Larissa Hubbard had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Anna-Patrice Patterson chipped in 11 rebounds.

Both teams shot under 32 percent for the game. Jones had a slight edge on the boards 57-49, including 18 offensive rebounds.

Dukiaha Jones and Micaiah Satcher had 19 points each for EMCC.

Jones returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 8 at LSU Eunice (11-6).
