LAUREL – Host Jones College finished second in the Bobcat Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Laurel Country Club.
It was the best result of the fall season for the Bobcats.
Playing in 40-degree temperatures and 15 mile an hour winds on Monday, Jones shot a 328 to hold a one-shot lead over East Central.
The Bobcats shot 318 on Tuesday to finish with a 646. Mississippi Gulf Coast was in third place after round one with a 331, but shot a 303 on Tuesday to end up in first place with a 634. East Central and Meridian tied for third with a 351 in the 13-team tournament.
Individually, freshman
Bastian Graf (Germany) led Jones with an 81-77 – 158, which gave him a sixth-place finish. Sophomore
Drew Groscost (Lewisburg) shot an 81-80 – 161, which tied him for 12th place. Freshman
Julius Hautmann (Germany) had an 86-78 – 164, sophomore
Josh Tombs (England) posted an 82-83 – 165, sophomore
Walker Hall (Wayne Academy) fired an 84-87 – 171 and freshman
Matthew Eubank (Petal) shot a 99-84 – 183.
MGCCC's Matthew Bond was the tournament medalist by virtue of a sudden death playoff victory over East Central's Harvey Underwood on the second hole. Bond had a par on No. 2, while Underwood made bogey. Bond shot a 79-75 – 154, 10-over par. Underwood shot a 76-78 – 154.
The All-Tournament Team consisted of Underwood, MGCCC's Paul Hoefer, Pearl River's Seth Tubb, Northeast's Olof Behle and Graf.
This was the final event of the 2025 fall season.
The next tournament will be the Tommy Snell Invitational, which will be hosted by MGCCC. That will take place Feb. 9-10 at Diamondhead Country Club.
