GULFPORT – Jones College finished seventh in the Charles Cooper Classic here at Windance Country Club Tuesday.
The Bobcats fashioned a 307-296-296 – 899 (+35) in the 54-hole event. The teams played 36 holes on Monday and finished with 18 holes on Tuesday.
Jones had the second-highest finish by an MACCC school in the 17-team event.
Murray State College (Okla.) won the tournament on the first hole of a playoff with tournament host Mississippi Gulf Coast. Both of those schools finished with an 878 and Central Alabama was third with an 882.
Other MACCC schools competing were Northeast in a tie for eighth at 902, Meridian in a tie for 10th at 913, East Central at 13th with a 921, Pearl River in 15th place at 944, MGCCC B-team in 16th at 963 and Copiah-Lincoln in 17th at 967.
Individually, sophomore
Drew Groscost (Lewisburg) led the Bobcats with a 74-74-72 – 220 (+4), which tied him for ninth place. Freshman
Bastian Graf (Germany) shot a 76-74-74 – 224 (+8). Freshman
Julius Hautmann (Germany) posted a 77-76-74 – 227 (+11), sophomore
Walker Hall (Wayne Academy) fired an 80-74-76 – 230 (+14) and sophomore
Josh Tombs (England) shot an 82-74-79 – 235 (+19).
Connor Tallentire of Murray State was tournament medalist with a 71-69-66 – 206, 10-under par. That was eight shots better than MGCCC's Paul Hoefer, who fashioned a 76-71-67 – 214, 2-under par. Meridian's Jace Duckworth was third with a 70-73-73 – 216, even par.
The Bobcats will host the JC Invitational Nov. 10-11 at Laurel Country Club in the final fall tournament of 2025.
