ELLISVILLE – No. 25 Jones trailed 12-2 in the opening set before rallying around a massive home crowd for a 25-22 set one win and sweep of rival Pearl River, 3-0, Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Jones clinched at least a share of the MACCC title and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region 23 Tournament which will be played in Ellisville.
Jones will host the MACCC's No. 8 seed on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinals and the region semifinals and final are Nov. 1/2 at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats improved to 25-4, 14-1 MACCC and dropped PRCC to 22-10, 10-4 in league action.
Trailing 12-2 in the first, Jones ran off nine of the next 10 points and got within 13-11 to force a PRCC timeout.
Jones eventually tied the match at 22-22 after a Wildcat shot went wide before Jones scored the final three points behind
Chelsea Daffin's serve for a 25-22 win.
Tied at five in the second set,
Adelaide Egner helped the Bobcats score the next four to take a 9-5 lead.
Izzi Barnes and
Mamie Fromdahl later combined on a 25-20 set-clinching win with an assisted block.
Jones pulled away from a 6-5 lead in the third set with an 8-1 spurt to lead 14-6.
The Bobcats closed out the third set win and match when PRCC's service at 24-19 went into the net.
Barnes had a team-high 10 kills, followed by Daffin with eight and
Jensi Doise with eight.
Olivia Guth had 14 digs and Fromdahl 10.
Jones had 11 blocks and nine aces in the match.
Jones travels to No. 24 Enterprise State on Wednesday, Oct. 22 for a 3 p.m. first serve. The match will be streamed on ESCC's YouTube channel.
