ELLISVILLE – Not even a highlight reel shot could propel Jones College here Thursday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Larissa Hubbard (Harrison Central) connected on a 74-footer at the halftime buzzer to give Jones College a 30-28 lead over Northwest.
But the Rangers outscored the Bobcats 51-39 in the second half and posted a 79-69 victory.
Jones falls to 3-13 overall and 0-4 in the MACCC. Northwest improves to 7-7 and 3-1.
Jones led 14-13 after the first quarter and was down 28-27 after Northwest's Takera Bland made a free throw with three seconds left in first half.
But Bland missed the second attempt, Hubbard got the rebound and launched a ¾ length of the court shot and saw it go in to the cheers of the home crowd.
The Bobcats continued the momentum into the third quarter and took its longest lead of the night at 39-34 when
Raygan Faulkner (Meridian) made a 3-pointer at the 7:11 mark.
But the Rangers would rally and take the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Aaliyah Taylor which made it 45-42. Northwest led 54-47 going into the final quarter.
Bland's layup with 6:28 remaining gave the Rangers its longest lead at 64-49. Jones battled back to within 74-69 with 36 seconds to play when
Khalee Harrison scored, but that was as close as they would get.
Hubbard had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bobcats.
Zharia Leflore (Neshoba Central) had 15 points and six rebounds.
Alorian Story had 20 points and nine rebound to top the Rangers. Bland added 15 points and Taylor had 13.
Northwest outrebounded Jones, 47-39. The Bobcats had 15 turnovers compared to 20 for the Rangers.
Jones travels Southwest for its next game on Monday. The Rangers host Mississippi Delta on Monday.
