Jones topples previously unbeaten Georgia Military, 4-1

ELLISVILLE – Two Bobcat goals in a 1:46 span in the opening half set the tone in No. 12 Jones College's 4-1 victory over No. 17 Georgia Military College Saturday afternoon.

After an 0-2 start, Jones has won back-to-back matches against ranked opponents. GMC dropped its first of the season to move to 4-1.

Xabier Souto-Rodriguez put the Cats on the board in the 21st minute, beating the keeper near post after a touch by Matt Reed.

Less than two minutes later, Luke Dickson's left-footed shot curled into the upper 90 to extend the lead to 2-0.

Out of the break, Reed picked up his third goal in three matches in the 55th minute and Tlotlo Langa made it 4-1 Jones in the 65th with a neat chip of the keeper.

Sonny West denied the Bobcats a shutout with a goal in the 89th minute.

Joshua Goodwin played the opening 77:07 and registered one save while Brax Rials took the final 12:53 and allowed the lone Bulldog goal.

Jones outshot GMC 15-10, including 8-2 on net.

The Bobcats play a fifth straight ranked opponent to open the season on Tuesday, Sept. 12 in No. 16 St. Louis. The match is being played at Northwest Community College in Senatobia.
