TEMPE, Ariz. – For the third time in five years, a Jones College men's tennis player has brought home the ITA's Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.
Sophomore
Dawson Do is the latest recipient for the Bobcats, joining Trey Hilton (2021) and James McWilliams (2020) to win the award.
"Dawson has unquestionably been the leader of our team this year," head coach
Brooks Buffington said. "He holds himself and his teammates to a very high standard. His impact on our team is one of the strongest that I've had in my career."
Do moved up to the No. 4 singles position, after being No. 6 as a freshman, and went 14-3 overall. He was 14-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Outside of yielding impressive results on the court, Do is the team captain, an ITA Scholar-Athlete, was named to the NJCAA All-Academic First Team and was on the Jones College President's List.
"The sacrifices he's made to play tennis at Jones have been nothing short of remarkable," coach Buffington continued. "Being enrolled full-time at Jones and Southern Miss and traveling back-and-forth daily for practice and classes while carrying a 4.0 GPA. He's the epitome of this award."
Do and the Bobcats are competing in the national tournament in Plano, Texas, after bringing home MACCC and NJCAA Region 23 titles.
