ELLISVILLE – No. 12 Jones College lost a 5-4 match to No. 11 Alabama-South here Monday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
It was the first loss of the season for the Bobcats, who are now 13-1. The Coyotes improve to 17-8.
Jones will end MACCC regular season play with a 2 p.m. Tuesday match at No. 19 Itawamba. They will play their final regular season match of the spring vs. No. 8 Wallace State-Hanceville at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Meridian.
The Coyotes won two of the doubles' matches.
Tom Garrett (Australia) and
Juan Francisco Pereyra (Argentina) beat Alvaro Velasco and David Gimenez in No. 1 doubles, 8-5.
Ridge Jones (Northeast Jones) and
Felipe Morales (Ecuador) lost 5-8 to Nils Guyot and Milan Olagnon in No. 2 doubles.
Reese Touchet (Madison Central) and
Ryan Roth (Resurrection Catholic) lost 6-8 to Zachary Regan and Maximo Yanez in No. 3 doubles.
Pereyra beat Julien Cordeau in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Garrett whipped Gimenez in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Morales rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win in No. 3 singles over Olagnon. Jones fell to Velasco in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 1-6, 4-6. Roth lost to Guyot in No. 5 singles, 0-6, 3-6.
Luke Westmoreland (Grenada) fell to Yanez in No. 6 singles, 3-6, 2-6.
