RAYMOND – Tenth-rated Jones College surprised No. 8 Weatherford College (Texas) 7-2 here Saturday afternoon at the Cleon McKnight Tennis Center on the Hinds Community College campus.
Jones is now 14-0 and will host Blue Mountain Christian University in a noon match on Wednesday.
The Coyotes are 4-3.
The Bobcats won two of the doubles' points.
Guadalupe Tocci (Argentina) and
Daniela Tovar (Venezuela) beat Sanja Djudjevic and Tsitsi Claire Mahere in No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
Maggie Savell (Park Place Christian Academy) and
Annalyn Housley (Nettleton) blanked Sara Maksimovic and Chloe Baker in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) and
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) lost 2-8 to Carmine Becoude and Hoziane Kitambala in No. 1 doubles, 2-8.
Hernandez outlasted Becoude in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 and Tocci rallied past Kitambala in No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Tovar won a close one over Mahere in No. 3 singles, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (10-8) in No. 3 singles. Housley blanked Baker in No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Savell whipped Maksimovic in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Bennett fell to Djurdjevic in No. 4 singles, 2-6, 4-6.
