MERIDIAN – No. 11 Jones College defeated No. 14 Meridian 7-2 here Friday afternoon at the Northeast Park Tennis Center.
It was the 66th consecutive MACCC victory for the Bobcats. Jones has not lost a conference match in five years.
Jones is 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the league. Meridian is 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the league.
The Bobcats won a close one in No. 1 doubles when
Molly Bennett (Madison Central) and
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) edged Randy Rakotoarilala and Isabella Quintero, 9-7.
Guadalupe Tocci (Argentina) and
Daniela Tovar (Venezuela) defeated Amelia Anding and Ruthie Storment in No. 2 doubles, 8-1.
Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) and
Maggie Savell (Park Place Christian Academy) fell to Cheludo Monnayoo and Lilly Hollingsworth in No. 3 doubles, 4-8.
Hernandez edged Rakotoarilala in No. 1 singles, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 and Tocci whipped Quintero in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Bennett defeated Anding in No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and
Annalyn Housley (Nettleton) beat Cali Grace Davis in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Savell whipped Hollingsworth in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Tovar fell to Monnayoo in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 2-6, 2-6.
Jones hosts Millsaps at 11 a.m. Saturday, goes to Delta State for a 1 p.m. scrimmage on Monday and hosts Southwest in a 2 p.m. conference matchup on Tuesday.
Meridian visits East Central on Tuesday.
