Bobcats dominate Lions in posting first MACCC victory

ELLISVILLE – Jones College never trailed in posting its first MACCC victory with an impressive 68-50 victory over East Mississippi here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
 
Valencia McFall (St. Martin) led the way with 24 points and eight rebounds. La'Genesis Johnson (Choctaw County) had 15 points and 20 rebounds and Khyla Ragins (Harrison Central) had 14 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
 
The Bobcats are now 5-14 overall and 1-7 in the conference. The Lions drop to 3-18 and 0-7.
 
The Bobcats held EMCC without a point for the first 7:30 of the game and would lead 14-6 after the first quarter. Johnson's layup put Jones ahead 28-16 with 59 seconds left in the first half before Je'Niecia Hill's 3-pointer cut the margin to 28-19 at halftime.
 
EMCC was within 34-28 midway through the third quarter. But a 9-0 run capped by a Ragins' layup put Jones ahead 43-28 with 3:09 showing. Jones led 45-34 heading into the final period.
 
The Bobcats were never threatened in the fourth quarter and took its longest lead of the game at 60-40 with 5:29 to play on a layup by Aasia Wilson (West Jones).
 
The Bobcats were 28-of-64 from the field for 56 percent, 3-of-13 from 3-point range for 23 percent and 9-of-13 from the free throw line for 69 percent.
 
EMCC, which was led by Hannah McDougle's 20 points, was 19-of-60 from the floor for 32 percent, 3-of-20 from 3-point range for 15 percent and 9-of-14 from the foul line for 64 percent.
 
The Bobcats outrebounded EMCC, 50-32. Jones outscored the Lions 46-28 on points in the paint and 27-13 on second chance points.
 
Jones goes to Holmes for a 5:30 p.m. Thursday contest. EMCC hosts Mississippi Delta on Thursday.
