ELLISVILLE – No. 15 Jones College put five players in double figures and defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 91-71 here Tuesday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak and was the ninth straight victory for Jones over MGCCC.
The Bobcats made their first nine shots from the floor and never looked back.
An
LJ Hackman (Memphis East) layup with 13:18 left in the opening half ended a 15-5 run and put the Bobcats ahead 25-10. MGCCC's Za'Kariyea Hamilton made a layup with 6:26 left in the half to cut the lead to 31-24.
But Jones outscored the Bulldogs 16-9 the rest of the half and led 47-33 at intermission.
Hamilton's 3-pointer with 16:07 showing got MGCCC within 51-43, but the Bulldogs would get no closer.
Dimp Pernell's (Horn Lake) 3-pointer with 9:09 remaining gave the Bobcats their largest lead of the game at 72-49.
Jabbari Barry led the Bulldogs with 15 points and Hamilton added 14. Larry Lee had nine points and nine rebounds.
Avery Thomas II (Terry) led Jones with 22 points and seven rebounds and
Ky Pernell (Horn Lake) had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Dimp returned after missing two games with an injury and scored 14 points, had five rebounds and five assists. Hackman had 13 points, seven assists and five rebounds and
Kylan Howze (Gulfport) had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Jones closed the night shooting at a 57 percent clip against 36 percent for the Bulldogs. Both teams connected on 10 three-pointers.
Jones out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 44-36, had 16 turnovers compared to 14 for MGCCC and owened a 46-22 advantage on points in the paint.
The Bobcats (8-2) travel to Bishop State in Mobile, Ala., for a 6 p.m. game on Friday. Jones will host Delgado (La.) at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 9.
The Bulldogs (7-3) go to Hinds on Thursday.
