Cats can't shake off slow start, fall 84-58 at Pensacola State

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Jones trailed 26-6 after one quarter and could never recover in an 84-58 setback at No. 21 Pensacola State Tuesday afternoon at Hartsell Arena. 

PSC improved to 13-3 with its sixth straight win. Jones dropped to 3-7.

The Pirates scored the game's first 14 points and the Bobcats' first basket didn't come until 4:27 left in the opening quarter.

Aasia Wilson had all six Jones points in the first.

PSC led 44-17 at the half.

Jones outscored PSC 41-40 the final two quarters, but the early deficit was too large.

Teeale Wells scored 16 of her season-high 18 points in the second half for the Bobcats, going 4-for-6 from long distance. Wilson finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Tanivea Miller and Khalee Harrison got good minutes in the second half and combined for eight points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Jones finished the game shooting 34 percent against 37 for PSC. The Bobcats turned it over 32 times to the Pirates' eight.

Katiya Casey led four Pirates in double figures with 18 points. 

The Bobcats return to action Monday, January 6 at 5:30 hosting No. 7 Shelton State.
