ELLISVILLE – Jones College was no match for No. 9 Shelton State, dropping an 84-37 decision here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The Bobcats were overwhelmed in most every statistical category.
The Bucs shot 49 percent and held Jones to 28 percent, outrebounded Jones 50-32 and forced the Bobcats into 25 turnovers.
Shelton State outscored the Bobcats 56-22 on points in the paint and 22-6 on fast break points.
The Bobcats trailed 21-12 after the opening quarter and
Shay Hunter's (Neshoba Central) layup had them within 24-16 with 7:13 left in the first half.
But the Bucs outscored Jones 22-2 the remainder of the second quarter to take a 46-18 halftime lead.
It was 47-29 after three quarters and Shelton State would dominate the final period, 27-8.
Zharia Leflore (Neshoba Central) had 14 points to lead Jones and Hunter added 10.
Julie Nekolna led five Bucs in double figures with 19 points and Alana Obianozie had 18.
The Bucs defeated Jones 97-50 on Nov. 9 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Bobcats (3-8) travel to LSU Eunice for a 6 p.m. game on Jan. 9.
Shelton State (12-3) visits Coastal Alabama-South on Jan. 9.
