ATHENS, Texas – Jones split a pair of games during the Budke-Serna Classic hosted by Trinity Valley on Friday-Saturday.
Jones lost to the host and 18th-ranked Lady Cardinals, 84-53, Friday but bounced back nicely with an 83-50 win over Hill College in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Bobcats, 2-4, travel to No. 2 Northwest Florida State Dec. 7.
TVCC 84, Jones 53
Tied at 8-8 to start, Trinity Valley went on a 10-0 run and never looked back in a sixth consecutive win over Jones.
Aasia Wilson and
A'tyia Allen combined for the first eight points and would both finish the night in double figures.
Jones trailed 46-25 at the half.
The Bobcats played a stronger second half and got good minutes from
Teeale Wells,
K'Lylah Stovall and
Zharia Leflore. The trio combined for 14 points, six steals and five rebounds.
Jones shot it a season-high 43 percent from the floor and was outscored just 38-28 the final 20 minutes.
Wilson had a team-high 13 points,
Shay Hunter added 12 and Allen had 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Cards were led by 21 points and 10 rebounds from Gabby Morales and 16 from Monica Marsh.
Jones 83, Hill College 50
The Bobcats snapped a two-game skid with a rout of the Rebels Saturday.
Jones trailed 7-3 early but scored 18 of the next 22 points to take a 21-11 lead.
That lead ballooned to 43-19 at the half behind 14 points from Wilson and 10 each by Leflore and Hunter.
Jones continued to pour it on the third quarter, outscoring Hill 27-11, to run away with the largest victory in the
Deneshia Faulkner era.
Coming off a season-best 43 percent shooting against TVCC, Jones shot 49 against Hill.
Hunter finished with a career-best 24 points and seven steals,
K'Lylah Stovall had 17 points and six rebounds and both Wilson and Leflore closed with 16.
Larissa Hubbard had eight points and 10 boards off the bench.
Hollie Sylve led the Rebels with 17 points.
