ELLISVILLE – In the first-ever CatFight on the volleyball court at A.B. Howard Gymnasium, Jones College blanked Pearl River 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-19) Wednesday night to sweep the season series.
Jones moved into a tie for first in the MACCC standings at 21-6 overall, 6-2 in the league. PRCC dropped to 10-21, 4-4 MACCC.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 6-1 start in the opening set and led 11-5 after an
Ainslee Copeland kill.
But PRCC would fight back to tie the match at 14-14. A
LeAnn Lambert kill made it 20-19 Jones and
Harmony Jackson slammed home the game-winner.
Jones led 13-10 after a wide shot from the Wildcats in the second set and extended the lead to 15-10 on a Jackson block and 19-14 on an
Alanah Fitch block.
PRCC called timeout with Jones up 20-14 and a
Mamie Fromdahl kill closed out a second set win.
PRCC led 4-0 after Madison Butler served for five straight and Jones called timeout down 9-4. The Wildcats later won a very long point to go up 11-7 before Jones scored eight of the next 12 points to tie it at 15-15 on a Fromdahl ace.
A Lambert kill and Fromdahl ace put Jones on top, 21-18, and the Bobcats closed it out with an
Adelaide Egner ace to sweep.
Lambert had a season-high 14 kills, Jackson added 12 and Copeland eight.
Hanna James had four blocks and
Emily Boudreaux 20 digs.
Jones goes to Itawamba on Monday, Oct. 21 for a 5 p.m. first serve.
