Jones downs MACCC-leading Northwest, 3-1

ELLISVILLE – Jones took down MACCC-leading Northwest Monday night, 3-1, in front of an enthusiastic crowd at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

The Bobcats got revenge from a 3-1 loss in Senatobia early this year.

The win gives first-year head coach John Dussouy his 20th, with Jones improving to 20-6 overall, 5-2 in the MACCC and a match back of first.

Northwest, who had won 17 straight until back-to-back conference losses, dropped to 21-8, 5-2 in the league.

Jones took an early 9-4 lead in the opening set before a Northwest timeout. The Rangers rattled off the next eight points to take a 12-9 lead until a Hanna James kill stopped it.

Tied at 17-17 and 21-21, Jones scored the last four points of the first to take a 25-21 win.

Back-to-back aces for Sara Akins gave Jones a 5-1 lead in the second set. Later on, a Mamie Fromdahl block made it 15-11 Jones.

Trailing 18-12 after an Alanah Fitch ace, Northwest called timeout and scored 10 of the next 15 points to pull within 23-22.

Harmony Jackson just missed the set-winner in the corner of the court and the Rangers used that miss to win it 28-26 and tie the match at 1-1.

Jones took control of the match in the third set.

Jones jumped out to a 7-2 start. A big dig by Fromdahl and James block made it 12-5. After an Aubriyah Smith kill it was 16-6 and Jones won it 25-13.

Jones led 5-1 in the fourth. A Lexie Drace kill and ensuing block made it 13-6. Jones led 20-8 after a Northwest timeout and won it 25-12 to close out a 3-1 victory.

The Bobcats host Pearl River Wednesday at 6 p.m.
