MERIDIAN – Despite double-doubles from
Valencia McFall and
Aasia Wilson, Jones was unable to overcome a large fourth quarter deficit in falling, 65-57, at Meridian Thursday night.
Meridian improved to 7-8 overall, 3-0 in the MACCC. Jones dropped to 4-10, 0-3 in the league and had a 15-game win streak snapped over the Eagles.
Jones held Meridian scoreless the first 4:04 and
Chrystianna Beeman's three-pointer just before the quarter buzzer gave the Bobcats an 11-9 lead after one.
A 7-0 Eagle run to start the second quarter gave them their largest lead of the half, 16-11.
It was tied up at the half at 26 apiece.
Meridian's best quarter was the third, outscoring Jones 22-15 to take a 48-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
The lead grew to double digits, but got down to 63-57 with under a minute to play before a turnover sealed the game for Meridian.
McFall finished with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, Wilson added 11 points and 11 rebounds and
La'Genesis Johnson, who battled foul trouble all night, closed with nine points and eight rebounds in limited minutes.
Amari Davis led Meridian with 21 points, followed by Raven Jones with 14-11 and Jamesha Jones with 10 points.
Jones shot 35 percent for the night and just 6 of 27 from three-point range. Meridian shot 43 percent.
The Bobcats return home Monday to host Gulf Coast at 5:30 p.m.
