HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The 13th-rated Wallace State-Hanceville Lions edged No. 11 Jones College 5-4 here Monday afternoon.
Jones ends regular season play at 19-3 and will host the Women's Region 23 Tournament April 13-15.
The No. 1 seed Jones women (19-3) meet No. 8 seed Southwest at 8:30 a.m. on April 13 in the first round of regional play. Other Thursday matchups will see No. 3 seed Meridian meet No. 6 seed East Central, No. 4 seed Itawamba vs. No. 5 seed Copiah-Lincoln and No. 2 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast vs. No. 7 Northwest.
Jones lost two of the doubles' points and could not rally vs. Wallace State.
Maggie Savell (Clinton Christian Academy) and
Allie Johnson (Hernando) beat Lilly Brown and Alexandra Luders in No. 2 doubles, 8-3. In No. 1 doubles,
Guadalupe Tocci (Argentina) and
Daniela Tovar (Venezuela) lost 5-8 to Kim Coots and Erianna Irvin.
Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) and
Reagan Salter (Lewisburg) fell in a close 6-8 match to Martina Paillet and Natalia Vergara Campus in No. 3 doubles.
Tocci beat Coots in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 7-5. Tovar downed Luders in No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and
Annalyn Housley (Nettleton) whipped Vergara Campus in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Savell lost a tight match to Paillet in No. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 5-10. Irvin beat Johnson in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2 and Anderson lost to Brown in No. 6 singles, 3-6, 1-6.
