Cary's late-game triple, Deaton's CG helps Jones sweep in Louisiana

CHALMETTE, La. – Josh Cary's two-run triple in the top of the seventh helped Jones come-from-behind to beat Coastal Alabama-North, 4-3, and Brice Deaton's complete-game shutout lifted the Bobcats over Nunez, 5-0, to sweep a pair.

Winners of 11 straight games, Jones improved to 14-4 on the year. It's their best 18-game start since 2019.

Jones will head to Jackson and Smith-Wills Stadium on Wednesday to play Mississippi Delta and Itawamba at noon and 2:30.

Jones 4, Coastal-North 3

Trailing 3-1 after four, Gatlin Sanders' sac fly got the Bobcats within a run in the fifth and then Cary's pinch-hit, two-run triple gave Jones the come-from-behind win.

Luke Lycette's RBI-single gave Jones a 1-0 lead in the second.

The Eagles got a three-run homer from Zane Steele in the fourth after a two-out error kept the inning alive.

Sanders drew a leadoff walk to start the seventh and Tristan Pearson singled to put two on. Cary then ripped a triple to center to plate both.

Lycette got a pair of groundouts and a strikeout in the bottom of the seventh for his fourth save of the year.

Jones 5, Nunez 0

Deaton tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and the top of the Bobcat lineup went 7-for-14 with three doubles, a home run and five runs scored to sweep the two games.

Sanders' RBI-single broke a scoreless game in the fourth to score Cary. Beau Bryans followed with a two-run homer to make it 3-0.

Back-to-back Marquette Gibson and Sanders RBI-doubles extended the lead to 5-0 in the sixth.

Deaton allowed just a double in the second and single in the fourth.
