ELLISVILLE – No. 12 Jones College rolled past No. 22 Itawamba 8-1 here Thursday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats are now 11-0 overall, 6-0 in the MACCC.
Jones got off to a strong start, taking all three doubles' points.
Guadalupe Tocci (Argentina) and
Daniela Tovar (Venezeula) edged Martina Coghetto and Jimena Palomo in No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
Maggie Savell (Park Place Christian Academy) and
Allie Johnson (Hernando) shut out Cheyenne Hughes and Kaitlyn Greenwood in No. 2 doubles, 8-0, and
Michaela Anderson (Tupelo) and
Reagan Salter (Lewisburg) blanked Tyler Athas and Maggie Franks in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Tocci beat Coghetto in No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2 and Savell defeated Hughes in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Johnson whipped Greenwood in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Anderson downed Athas in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Annalyn Housley (Nettleton) beat Franks in No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Tovar fell to Palomo in No. 2 singles, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-10.
Jones hosts Millsaps in an 11 a.m. match on Saturday before traveling to New Albany to meet Northeast and Blue Mountain University on Tuesday.
Itawamba, 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the league, hosts Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.
