Game Recap: Baseball | | by Kevin Maloney

Honeycutt homers twice, Druckenmiller K's 11 in split with Hinds

ELLISVILLE – Chase Honeycutt homered in each game and drove in five and Drew Druckenmiller punched out a career-high 11 in a complete game performance in game two to help No. 13 Jones split with No. 17 Hinds Wednesday evening at The Bank.

Jones moved to 18-6, 3-1 in the MACCC and Hinds is now 14-9, 2-2 in conference play.

Honeycutt's two homers were the first of the season for the third-year sophomore. He hit just two his first 85 games as a Bobcat.

Jones travels to East Mississippi for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

Hinds 8, Jones 2

Things couldn't have gotten off to a worse start for Jones in the opener, with Hinds plating five runs in the first inning – four with two outs – to cruise to the game one victory.

A leadoff double, wild pitch and then a Cameron Hill grand slam put Hinds on top for good.

All the offense the Bobcats could muster up was Honeycutt's two-run blast in the second that scored Peyton Bell to cut it to 5-2.

Jones pitching held Hinds to three runs over the final eight innings.

Francisco Elvira tossed 3.1 in relief of Dalton Tanner and struck out four and former Eagle Tate Duncan threw a scoreless ninth.

Jones' six hits were its second-fewest this season.

Lincoln Sheffield and Alex McGarrh combined to strikeout eight and allowed one earned run for the Eagles.

Jones 11, Hinds 0

It was Druckenmiller's show in the nightcap.

The Southern Miss signee turned in his best performance as a Bobcat, striking out 11 against two walks and allowing two hits over seven shutout innings.

Honeycutt's three-run blast to left-center put Jones on top 3-0 in the second and Druckenmiller had all the run support he needed.

The Bobcat bats heated up with 11 hits, led by Marquette Gibson, Tristan Pearson and Luke Lycette with two apiece. Pearson drove in four, including a bases-clearing double in the sixth.

Jones sent 12 to the plate in the sixth and scored seven runs.

Hinds had a single in the first and second and that was it, with Druckenmiller holding the Eagles hitless the final five frames.

Not to be left out was a fantastic defensive play by Jakob Wax in the top of the seventh, robbing Tyler Janos of a hit. See below.
