Walk-off walk helps Jones split with Lawson State

ELLISVILLE – Josh Cary drew a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded to lift Jones over Lawson State, 4-3, in Game 2 to split Monday's doubleheader at The Bank.

Lawson State took the opener 4-3. Both games went into extra innings.

Jones moved to 2-2 and will have a quick turnaround when they host Co-Lin for a single 9-inning game Tuesday.

Lawson State 4, Jones 3 (8)

Gatlin Sanders' two-run single tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth, but Cameron Hill's sac fly in the eighth would help the Cougars take the opener.

Drake LaRoche scattered eight hits over seven innings for Lawson State to get the win.

Beau Bryans was 3-for-4 with a triple and Evan Rogers also doubled.

Cary's RBI-groundout made it a 4-3 game in the bottom of the eighth before a foul out ended the game.

Dalton Tanner drew the start and went 2.1 innings, Kace Matthews threw 2.2 scoreless and Charlee Strickland took the loss in 3.0 innings of relief.

Jones 4, Lawson State 3 (8)

Peyton Bell's RBI-triple and Cary's infield single gave Jones a 3-1 lead in the fourth and they'd rally for a walk-off walk in the eighth to get the split.

Joe Watkins' solo home run tied the game in the seventh.

A leadoff walk to Rogers, sac bunt and hit-by-pitch helped setup the winning run.

Luke Lycette was excellent in two innings of relief to get the win, striking out five and also finishing with two hits. Drew Druckenmiller struck out 10 in 4.2 innings in a no-decision.
