Khyla Ragins scored a career-high 29 points and
Aasia Wilson contributed her second career double-double, but it wasn't enough in a 78-70 overtime loss to ASU Mid-South on Saturday afternoon at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The teams split the home-and-home series, with Jones winning the first meeting, 64-50, back on Nov. 2 in West Memphis, Arkansas.
ASU Mid-South got its first win in six tries against the Bobcats to improve to 2-9. Jones dropped its fourth straight game to fall to 3-5.
Already short-handed, Jones was dealt a tough blow 2:14 into the game when
La'Genesis Johnson went down with a knee injury. Her absence was felt immediately on the boards.
Charalyn Rester's three-pointer with 3:59 left in the opening quarter gave the Lady Greyhounds a 12-5 lead. It was a 19-15 advantage after one.
Jones battled back to retake the lead, 30-28, as part of a 15-4 run and took a 35-30 lead into the locker room.
Leading by as many as eight in the second half, Jones had to have a Ragins jumper with six seconds left to force overtime tied at 65-all.
The Lady Greyhounds scored the first four points in overtime and never looked back, outscoring Jones 13-5 to take the 78-70 win.
ASU Mid-South outrebounded Jones 54-47 and benefited from the charity stripe where they got to the line 28 times against 13 for Jones. The Lady Greyhounds shot 19 free throws in the second half alone, compared to four for Jones.
Five ASU Mid-South players finished in double figures, with Jakiyah Bell and Kayla Hudson both posting double-doubles.
Ragins led Jones with 29 points on 13 of 35 shooting.
Valencia McFall had 15 points and 16 rebounds and Wilson 14 points and 16 rebounds. Johnson, who was averaging 10.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, didn't attempt a shot in four minutes of game action.
Jones goes to Southwest Mississippi Dec. 14 and hosts undefeated and No. 7 Pensacola State (12-0) on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m.
