Jones holds off late LSUE push to improve to 2-0

EUNICE, La. – Jones led by as many as 21 points but saw LSU Eunice cut it to five in the final minute before holding on for a 61-52 win Monday night at the HPRE Center.

Jones improved to 2-0 on the young season while LSUE fell to 0-2.

Khyla Ragins scored six of the first 10 points for Jones as they led 10-2 to start.

The lead grew to 18-7 after one quarter and 31-20 at the half.

Valencia McFall's offensive rebound and putback off her own miss extended the lead to 21 points with 2:35 to play in the third.

LSUE clawed back to 50-38 after three quarters and pushed the Bobcats the final 10 minutes.

The Bengals took advantage of multiple Bobcat turnovers and capitalized to pull within 57-52 with 46.2 to go.

But McFall would hit four free throws down the stretch to pull the final score to 61-52.

For a second straight game McFall finished with a team-high 19 points. She added 16 boards. Ragins finished with 14 and La'Genesis Johnson 11 points and nine rebounds.

Jones shot just 32 percent on the night and was 3-of-25 from downtown.
