SUMMIT – Jones squandered a 15-point first half lead and ran out of gas late as Southwest pulled away for a double digit win, 87-71, its fourth straight over the Bobcats.
Jones fell to 8-3. Southwest improved to 5-4.
LJ Hackman scored 16 of his 19 points in the first half, but went cold in the second half and would finish 6-of-21 from the floor.
His nine straight points gave Jones its largest lead, 34-19, with 5:48 left in the opening half.
But Southwest would rally over the final five minutes with a 17-4 run to pull within 38-36 at intermission.
Tied at 48-48 midway through the second half, a barrage of Bear three-pointers ignited a spark for the home team and its crowd.
Southwest would outscore Jones 51-33 in the second half to pull away for the win.
Dimp Pernell scored a team-best 22 points and added nine rebounds and five assists. Hackman had 19 points, five assists and five rebounds,
Trey Smith 14 points and
Ky Pernell 12 points and six boards.
The Bobcats shot 42 percent from the floor and were 10-for-19 from the charity stripe. Southwest shot 48 percent from the floor.
The Bears had four of their five starters score in double figures, led by Mark Drone's 21.
Jones returns home Monday to host Meridian for a non-conference game. Tipoff set for 6 p.m.
The women's soccer team will be recognized at halftime with their national championship trophy, a first in program history.
