Bobcats open Faulkner era with road victory

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – The Deneshia Faulkner era opened with a road victory Thursday night over ASU Mid-South, 64-50, at The Dog House.

The Bobcats stayed unbeaten in five all-time meetings against the Greyhounds.

Khyla Ragins scored the game's first five points for Jones and had seven of her 11 points in the opening 10 minutes.

Hope Mealer banked in a three-pointer at the top of the wing to tie the game early at 12-12.

Jones led 20-15 after one quarter.

A Chrystianna Beeman offensive rebound and putback gave Jones its largest lead at the time, 28-17, but ASU Mid-South would string together an 11-2 run to get it back within a deuce.

Valeria Martinez's putback layup as the horn went off gave Jones a 32-28 halftime lead.

Jones rebuilt its lead back to double digits late third quarter, using a La'Genesis Johnson finish to make it 43-30.

The Bobcats led 48-38 after three and would maintain a comfortable lead from then on.

Valencia McFall's and-one with 2:10 to play stretched the lead to 62-44.

McFall led the Bobcats with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, added nine rebounds and three assists. Ragins added 11 points and nine assists. Johnson and Mealer had eight points apiece.

Jones shot 41 percent from the floor and was 4-for-4 from the stripe. ASU Mid-South shot just 27 percent.

Ayanna Rutledge led three Greyhounds in double figures with 19 points and nine rebounds.

Jones continues a stretch of five straight away contests to open the season when they travel to LSU Eunice on Monday, Nov. 6.
