Payton, Haralson give Bobcats boost off the bench

ELLISVILLE – Decorian Payton and Zandon Haralson combined for 37 of Jones' season-high 53 points off the bench as the Bobcats pulled away from Northwest in the second half for an 82-64 win Thursday at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

Winners of five straight, Jones improved to 10-3, 3-0 in MACCC play. Northwest fell to 3-9 and 1-2.

Jones missed 12 of its first 13 shots and fell behind 10-3 before settling in.

Payton scored eight straight for the Bobcats and Samarion Grant hit back-to-back threes to put Jones up 17-16 with 9:03 left in the first half.

Caleb McGill's layup with under a minute left helped Jones take a 34-31 lead into the break.

Haralson went off against his former team the final 13 minutes, scoring all 16 of his points and eight straight to give Jones a 55-43 lead.

Northwest would not get any closer.

Behind Payton's 21 points and nine rebounds and 16 points from Haralson, McGill added 11 points as 11 different Bobcats scored.

Joseph Cooper scored a game-high 26 for Northwest.

Jones travels to Southwest Tuesday for a 6 p.m. tip looking for revenge from an early-season loss.
