Former Bobcat LHP Dalton Rogers selected by Red Sox in third round

LOS ANGELES – A former Jones College standout has had his named called in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
 
Dalton Rogers was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the draft on Monday afternoon. He was the 99th player taken in this year's draft, which is the highest spot for a former Bobcat to be selected.
 
Rogers, who prepped at Northwest Rankin, pitched for the Bobcats in 2021, earning All-MACCC honors. He was 4-4 with a 2.91 ERA. In 65 innings pitched, he struck out a team-high 103, allowed 41 hits and 21 earned runs.
 
This past season, Rogers pitched as a sophomore at Southern Miss, helping the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles to a 47-19 record, an NCAA Regional Championship and NCAA Super Regional appearance. 
 
Rogers went 1-1 with six saves and a 1.95 ERA. In 37 innings pitched, he allowed eight earned runs, 16 hits and struck out 57.
 
Rogers pitched in 32 games during his career at Northwest Rankin and signed with Southeastern Louisiana out of high school. He transferred to Jones after his freshman year with the Lions.
 
He is the first Bobcat to be selected since right-handed pitcher Will Freeman was selected by the San Diego Padres in 2018 in the 36th round.
